Morgan Duke Conservation Society / Become A Volunteer

Become A Volunteer Today!

Morgan Duke Conservation Society is always in need of volunteers who can help maintain and preserve the natural resources and environment in the Adirondack Preserves, Catskill Preserves, and other places in New York State. When you become a volunteer for Morgan Duke Conservation Society, you have a positive impact on the local environment, natural resources, habitats, and ecosystems. As a volunteer you are part of the community and will have the opportunity to interact with many volunteers, acquire new skills, and enjoy new experiences.

As a volunteer, you can pick which projects you would like to work on; this may include picking up litter on small beaches, in fields, or in areas with camping sites. Our volunteers also help with general maintenance to help prepare parks for the peak season by painting trail gates, the outside of outhouses, and picnic tables; we also help restore vegetation by planting trees to repair damage caused by four-wheel vehicles.

Requirements

Our volunteer work is mostly done on state land under an NYSDEC Volunteer Stewardship Agreement that Morgan Duke Conservation Society signed with NYSDEC. When you sign up as a volunteer you will be asked to fill out an NYSDEC individual volunteer application. All volunteers who work under the NYSDEC Volunteer Stewardship Agreement are provided with the same liability and workers’ compensation protection as salaried state employees.

From the NYSDEC website: As volunteers in this Program, participants are provided with the same liability and workers’ compensation protection as salaried state employees, as long as they are acting within the scope and terms of the Agreement and comply with the Department’s guidelines for use of volunteers.

Once you have filled out the application, please scan and email it to Jsullivan@morganduke.ngo or mail it to Morgan Duke Conservation Society, P.O. Box 186, Walden, NY 12586.

Please note that the bottom of the volunteer form says a photocopy of the volunteer’s driver ID is required. Please ignore this as NYSDEC informed us they do not need a copy.
